Table Conversion Input File Multiple Format Issue

I have created a table conversion that has 2 record formats within the same text file.  When I set up the user defined format in the table conversion it allows me to select the Format designator for its length and type for each designator.  Then I can further define the other columns in the column layout and finish.  When you go back to make changes to the column layout it looses the format designator properties and will only allow you to fix one of them, I cannot get these to remain assigned and fix the length and type of the 2nd
