Wrong Intercompany Segment on Retained Earnings account

Does anyone know what is driving the Intercompany segment value used for the retained earnings account?  I have a configuration that has a balancing segment called company and an Intercompany segment that use the same LOV (lets say 001, 002, 003).  Lets say for the sake of simplicity that the account structure is xxx.xxxx.xxx (company.account.intercompany).  This is all within one ledger. When period close is creating the retained earnings entries it is creating entries to accounts such as 002.3200.001.  Why would it do this?  Is there a way to get it to post to the same Company and Intercompany segment
