R12 with OID/Access Manager

Hi,

We are using R12 and is lookinat at using OID/Access Manager with Active Directory as our SSO solution.

Q: Is it necessary to replicate Active Directory contents to OID? All the papers I read seem to suggest that was the case. However if all we do is authenticate user credential against AD, why can't OID delegate authentication task to AD?
