Hourly Rate field in Employee Master (PHRT)

Does the hourly rate entered in the employee master round?  And if so, how can I tell what the rounding rules are?  When I look at this field in the data dictionary (PHRT), I see that we have it set to display to 3 decimals.   I noticed on the payroll register that if the hourly rate is displayed to 3 decimal, the hours worked are multiplied by that entire number to calculate wages.  I do not see any rounding occuring - am I looking at this field correctly?
