Why are apps using multiple paths when NFS mounted onto sym link directories?

On the client:
mkdir -p /nfs_local/opt/app/ofaoas
chown ofaoas:amazon /nfs_local/opt/app/ofaoas

chmod gu+rwx /nfs_local/opt/app/ofaoas
