Should Update Project Performance Set call Process Work Breakdown Structure Updates

Hello,

Should the "Update Project Performance Set" call the "Process Work Breakdown Structure Updates" concurrent job?  Hundreds of these WBS updates are spawned, and sometimes run through the night and into the morning.  The manager's question is, is it necessary that these are spawned from the performance set, and can this be disabled?
