Running rconfig to convert single instance database to rac database

Hi,

I am new to rac and hope someone can answer my question, I am converting a single instance database to rac database using rconfig, I am following oracle document step by step, I had moved the single instance database to the rac environment in shared storage, running rconfig create a second copy of the database as part of the conversion, because I had a big database with a lot of datafiles, the process is taking a long time to run. I am thinking why creating a second copy while it can just use the copy there. Is there something I am missing?
