How could i find that the corresponding GL period is open or Close....?

Hi .....

Please tell me how can i find out that the Corresponding GL period is open or not and also tell me if it is closed can i re-open accounting inventory periods once its is closed.....? if possible please send us some screen shot document on the above issue.
