Discount based on order total.

I have a situation where we would like to give a customer a 3% discount if they place an order over $2500.  Is there anyone else that has this type of scenario regarding orders?  If so how did you handle this situation?  I did look at using advanced pricing but was having trouble coming up with exactly what I needed.

I am trying to set this up as I foresee it being utilized.  Example if customer A orders $2500 he will get a 3% discount however if customer B orders $2500 he will get a 5% discount. 

Any help on insight this would be greatly appreciated.
