Applet in Insert Mode

Hello,
We are looking at ways to launch an applet in insert mode within the high interactivity client.
The process would be equivalent to when a user clicks the New button on an applet, except we want the process to be launched from a Hyperlink.
For example from the Home Page there could be a link called "Create a New Contact" which when clicked on by a user it would take the user to a specific view and the applet would already be in insert mode.
