ASM instance rename?

Is it possible to rename ASM instances?
I removed 2 nodes and added them back in 11.2.0.2 RAC cluster. The add node does not allow an option to specify instance name for ASM. It ended up creating +ASM3 and +ASM4. I'm wondering if someone else had this issue and can they be renamed to +ASM1, +ASM2?

It is not affecting the cluster availability, performance, but it is not consistent with other clusters we have.

There is a metalink note Doc ID 744932.1, but it explicitly states that procedure is not supported including 11.2.0.2 but it is there for test purpose??? What does it mean?
