Listener name R12 RAC

Hi,

I am following doc 823587.1 to convert a single instance R12 to RAC enabled. In section 3.7.4 it recommended using a named listener name ie listener_ebs, the default is listener_<node name>. I don't understand the advantage of using a named listener name, the doc suggested with named listener name we can use srvctl command to manage the listener. I had the default listener name and srvctl works just fine, so what am I missing?
