What's the difference between using "add fs" and "add inherit-pkg-dir" while configuring a NGZ ?

Hello,
What would be the pros and cons of using "add fs" (type=lofs) or "add inherit-pkg-dir" while configuring a NGZ?
Something about update? performance? portability? flexibility? less memory consumption?
