Custom Period Dimension

 I created a Planning Application using the classic wizard.  I need to have weeks, months, quarters, and yeartotal so I selected the custom period option with 52 base periods.  The application was created successfully but when I go into the EPM workspace and try to add the months and quarters the add button is grayed-out.  When I try to add a summary time period it only allows me to start with period 1 and end with period 52.  I cannot select any other time periods.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  We are version 11.1.1.3.
