implementing a password or challenge concept

What is the fundamental strategy on how to accomplish this?  I see the Password option on the form, what are the conditional rules?  The webform would have a data entry field for the user to enter passord and then conditional rule to match this against the actual password field?  Also, is there a way to let them change the password?
