VIP Failover

Hi All,I have noticed vip failed over  in my Oracle 11.2.0.2 RAC on Sun solaris 5.10 and then listener and ons went offline in intermediate state.I was trying to start both the services but i was getting placement error.
It got resolved after five hours itself.So i want to understand what could be the reason and if it happens again then what I can check.I need detailed step.
