Can we use the Oracle RDBMS installation software for the installation of the ASM home in Oracle 11g

Can we use the Oracle RDBMS installation software for the installation of the ASM home in Oracle 11gR2 ? or is it necessary to use the Grid Intrastruture software for the ASM Oracle in 11gR2 ?
