2 questions regarding patching using OEM

This is probably a dumb question (or two) .. but I have had a hard time finding any relevant end-user experiences with using OEM to apply database patches.  All previous patch upgrade we have just done at the command level, copy over the new opatch run the apply and done .. well now we are looking at using the patching functionality of OEM which looks like it upgrades the OPATCH application as needed then applies the patch (currently doing the CPU from July2011)  now running through the selections it seems overly easy .. and before I click submit, i was
