Client/server compatibility

Hi,According to the note 207303.1, it seems that client 8.1.7 is not compatible with 11.2 databases.
Nevertheless, when I test the connexion in such configuration it works.
What does it mean that client 8.1.7 is not compatible with 11.2 databases?
