Multipath Limitations
We have a Dell R910 maxed with 40 physical cores (80 virtual cores) with 512G RAM. This server is running OVM 2.2.2 and primary objective is to run Oracle databases as well as Oracle Middleware software.
I have 35 Netapp LUNs attached via fiber channel to this server so far and I configured multipathing for each LUN. Speaking with people, we have a lot more VMs to create on this server and therefore, a lot more RAW devices to provision to each guest. It leads me to wonder...is there a max device limitation with multipathd I should be concerned about? I am going to push OVM "shared devices" as much as possible, but when performance is required I am going to assign a RAW physical device to the VM.
