Data conversion from 9i to 11g - switching between archive log and no archive log can cause issues f

We are currently Oracle 9i on AIX and will be moving to 11g on AIX.  I am requesting any ideas to help make the data conversion as efficient as possible.  We are very small and I am the only one that works on the Oracle DB's so i really would appreciate any ideas you would be willing to share.

In order to preserve the 9i environment I will export the data from 9i and import into 11g.  This creates many archive logs and I am concerned about running out of space.  The structure of the db is that it is a single instance with multiple schemas to support the 6 distinct clients.  Each client will be converted at different times.  The data conversion currently takes me about 2 days to complete.
