With MS Office 2010, when run large FSG reports and choose output to Excel, PC locks up

For users with MS Office 2010, when they run large FSG reports and choose output Excel and multiple cost centers, their PC locks up.

After clicking on the Excel output icon, it begins to crunch the data (leaving $0.00 placeholders in each cell) and then after a short time the window goes blank/white - like the memory allowed for data has been maxed out or something and the machine basically locks up on Excel.

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you solve this problem?

We are on E-business suite 12.1.2.
