Lead Conversion to Opportunity

ur Sales Managers have converted Leads to Opportunities; however, some Sales Reps have returned to the Leads and selected 'Mark as Qualified' afterwards.  In reporting, the Lead appears to be 'Qualified' instead of 'Converted.'  We tried to 'convert' the lead again, but it is not possible to change the lead status to from 'qualified' to 'converted' in reporting.  Any thoughts?
