SL8500 drive serial numbers and maintenance
Drives in the SL8500/SL3000 have a maintenance contract based on the drive tray serial number which remains constant if the drive fails and is swapped out.
SLC reports the serial number of the drive brick - a customer has to log and maintain the serial numbers of the drives in the library manually and cross reference this with dev-adrr/location.
To simplify this could:-
SLC echo the serial number of the tray
Serial number of the tray be entered into (and retained by) the library config somehow as a one off exercise and echoed back through SLC
Assignment of serial number to a device be by the library in the same way we assign dWWN
