Message from Webpage: Please Do Not Use Invalid characters for XML Tag Name

The following webpage message pops up after I have validated the expression concat(concat(substring(ACTNUM,1,4),'-'),substring(ACTNUM,5,8)) and clicked okay to close the Add Element by Expression dialogue box.

I am using the above code because I need to display my account numbers like this: ####-####.

I will upload a screenshot of the error message.  Particularly, why am I getting this error messages when their identified 'invalid characters' are available to select in the Add Element by Expression diaalogue box like (, ), etc?  Is this a bug?
