Fixed Assets - Multiple Reinstatements?

A user intending to reinstate an existing partial retirement created a second partial retirement instead.  I understand that the functionality is designed to allow only the most recent partial retirement to be reinstated but now I have two separate partial retirements to undo. 
1)  Is my understanding correct - and -
2) Are there any known workarounds which would allow both of the partial retirements to be reinstated?
