Asset Reinstatement

Oracle states that, if an asset is retired in a previous fiscal year, it cannot be reinstated.  Is there a work around to this?  We have an asset that was retired by accident,  It is fully written off and there would be not any financial activity to be booked.  We have a legacy maintenace system tied to our asset inventory and they would like to be able to work on the asset.
