API to update global Categories

Hi,

Just want to know if there is an existing API to update the global asset categories? With this scenario: We are to update LIfe years of Asset Categories on all books so any newly added assets under that categories will take the new setup or life years on this particular. It would be a lot of asset categories and doing it manually will need a lot of time and effort. So we are thinking of a possibility of using an API/script to change the global categories.

Kindly let me know if furter details needed.
