Improve Agile Search Performance (Index?)

We are trying to improve the performance of a particular (multi-criteria) search. In particular, we're looking for Parts whose value of a particular text attribute contains any of a list of many (10s-100s) of values. We intend to bake this into a PX, which produces a report.

The GUI only seems to let you construct this as an advanced search with one line per value (so 10s-100s of criteria connected with ORs). As we add more criteria, performance seems to get worse. Is it reasonable to expect Oracle/Agile to add an index to help performance for such searches, or would/should an in-house DBA know how to do something like this?
