Seting up Product Recommendations

Hi all,
I am trying to set up product recommendations. I have a component-based customizable product such as GSM subscription. and vas services as simple products added to customizable product structure via relationship. I have added a product recommendation for one of the vas services to test and during order capture, i only added that simple product and verified that recommendation messages are generated correctly. But no recommendation message is generated when I sell this service within a customizable product,gsm subscription as it is supposed to be. What do you think can cause this, and how can I fix it?
