Beg Balance after location transfer

Why does the Beginning Balance on the Cost Detail & Reserve Detail reports change when transfers are made between locations?  The only place to see transfers by location is the asset transfer report which does not show up as transfer on the detail reports.  I would think the beginning balance should remain the same if you are running a year-to-date detail report.
