Shared Services and Workspace no longer link to PLANNING after reconfiguring PLANNING 11.1.2.1

We recently had some server issues with our upgraded environment and had to reinstall Essbase in a distributed system.   We have three servers (Essbase, Workspace(on IIS) and Planning.)  We had to reconfigure most of the application servers and may have inadvertantly taken a bad default value along the way.  Even though we have reconfigured with all the correct settings we can no longer connect to Planning from Workspace or Shared Services.  Shared Services gets a 500 error.  I can't find the right log files to tell me more about what is really failing.  I have tried connecting directly to the Planning
