Positive valued RMA hangs autoinvoice

Occasionally we experience positive valued RMAs.  Certain customers all the time, some customers randomly.  Our implementor claims this shouldn't be, nevertheless, that is what we are having to deal with.
When a positive valued RMA gets picked up by autoinvoice, it appears to hang and all other AR activity backs up, unable to process.

Has any one else experienced this and if so how did you overcome it?
