Anyone using Smart slices extensively?

Just wondering if anyone is using Smart slices extensively? The concept and capability of reducing the data set for the end users is certainly valid.  But I'm not sure if it's just not feasible for long term usage as the users mature with the product and data set and therefore will want the whole data set anyway.  I do see some promise maybe in pulling together and using for recurring charting.

Does anyone have any other specific practical advantages for using Smart slices??
