Seperating rman catalogs for primary & standby databases in a DG scenario.

Hello Gurus,
We are taking backups of both primary and standby databases to a different physical backup areas but using single rman catalog file.

We have these in our rman configurations.

CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO 1;
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY BACKED UP 1 TIMES TO 'SBT_TAPE';

Due to this, our archivelogs are being backed up only on one side. In a recent recovery scenario we have to transfer bunch of archive logs from one location to another.

In order to have the backup pieces and archive logs on both sides we are considering seperating rman catalogs for primary and standby. Want to make sure it is the correct way of doing it.

Howdy, Stranger!
