Oracle ASM on HP-UX

We're running Oracle ASM v 11.2.0.2 on HP-UX.  Databases 11.1, 10.2, and some 11.2.  I had a question about the setting for disk_async_io on these.  What are the common settings and how do you check to see if asynch io is being used?  Is there a best practices document somewhere within Oracle for setting AIO for use with ASM on Unix?
