11.2.0.2 RMAN Restore Not Honoring symbolic links

We have discovered that Oracle 11.2.0.2 rman restore does not follow the symbolic links but overwrite the links themselves when the destinations files are missing or deleted or simply touched only (there is NO valid Oracle datafiles).

It used to recreate or restore when we simply touch the destination files which symbolic links point (11.2.0.1 OK). this is the same at hp-ux itanuim boxes/linux/aix platforms. we are not using ASM but simply file systems.

We use /oracle/data/SID/df symbolic links [not much space] to point to /packages/SID/df files [Big Space].

So if we lose the destination datafiles (media failures or remvoing datafiles), we used to touch files before we can recreate or restore datafiles OK.

Howdy, Stranger!
