excel template in 11g

We are just getting started with BIP 11g and want to use true Excel templates as we did in BIP 10g.  In 10g, I could simply save the .xls file into the appropriate directory on the server and it would recognize the template.  I haven't been able to find out how to do this in 11g.  I have gone through the documentation in the Report Designer's Guide, but this only gets as far as testing the Excel template in the Template Viewer.  How do I upload it to the BIP server to use with the report in production?
