Can I only update LIFE_IN_MONTHS in FA_TAX_INTERFACE without providing DEPRN_METH_CODE ?

I read in one of the note that if you are updateing the DEPRE_METHOD_CODE with one of the Table Based Depreciation method code, then the LIFE_IN_MONTHS is mandatory but not sure if the reverse is true ?
