Siebel 7.7 CRM on MSSQL 2008 R2 using Compatibility Mode 80 ( 2000 )

We have been given a new project to re-host our current installation of Siebel in a new Data-center and they will not support the use of MSSQL 2000 without an exception. The IT center has asked if it would be possible to run Siebel 7.7 using the Compatibility Mode in MSSQL 2008 R2.
Has anyone tried this?

Is it even worth trying?
