Maximum Number of Disks in Raid 1+0

Hi,
Can Anybody Suggest me what is the maximum number of Disks can be used with Raid 1+0 for best performance. I have total of 48 disks in an Array so will it be good to make all the disks in Raid 1+0 with few hotspare or is is better to spread the LUN to different Raid 1+0 Lun.
