Want to use a special value set (accounting flexfield) in a DFF segment

 setup a dff on define categories in Inventoy.  I want the dff to hold the accounting flexfield.  I would like to use a value set like "ar_srs_ledger_flexfield" which containsfnd popider appl short_name ="SQLGL" code= GL#'  num =:$FLEX$.ar_chart_of_accounts_no_validation

instead of using =:$FLEX$.ar_chart_of_accounts_no_validation, I am trying to use a $PROFILE-- here is my line --NUM=:$PROFILE$.MFG_CHART_OF_ACCOUNTS_ID 

This does not work.  Can this be done?  How?
