FDM version compatibility

Does anyone know if FDM version 11 and HFM version 9 can be used together?
My requirement is to use FDM 11 in order to be able to connect the SAP FIN A adapter, but I understand I need FDM 11 for that.  

My alternative is to upgrade everything to system 11. 

Any thoughts on the interoperability of system 9 and 11?
