Automatic Memory Management in oracle 11G

Hi ,

Any one let me know is there any disadvantages of using  Automatic Memory Management' (AMM) with 11g (i.e. MEMORY_TARGET, MEMORY_MAX_TARGET), currently we are facing memory issues in one of our envirnment. suddently database will become very slow once in every two weeks after restarting the database then the performnace will be good. we are using high end configuration server.

Please suggest how to optimize the server?
