Change account code on open PO distribution

We are currently cleaning up our account codes in open Po's and need to replace the existing old code wth new account codes.

Is it posible to do this?

Can it be automated?

OR do we need to close the PO's and open new ones?

I would like to hear of any experiences of anyone who has done this before
