Installing Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 on vm 3.0.2

Trying to install a trial of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 .  Downloaded the trial from MS site.
Using HVM option to setup / create vm with it.  During boot phase Windows installer crashes with a blue screen.  STOP: 0x0000007E

xen_caps               : xen-3.0-x86_64 xen-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_32 hvm-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_64

Any ideas?  I looked at the certification and see that win server 2008 R2 is listed . Win 2008 R2 SP1 is listed in release notes.

I have 10+ linux VMs running without any issues. This is the first Win vm.
