closing a PO

What are the differences in close, close for receiving, and close for invoice actions on the PO?  I understand Final Cose.   We want to close a PO so the system 's planning engine will run and not assume we are still waiting on more material.  However, we can not perform afinal close as invoicing and month end close still needs to occur.
