Converted non-rac DB to rac but having trouble adding an instance on the already existing 2nd node

Hi,I have been trying to use dbca to add a second node/instance to a RAC database on exadata. It was restored and converted from a non-RAC database, version 11.2.0.1, and then converted to RAC and upgraded to 11.2.0.2,
If I use dbca, database options or instance management and select that database, it tells me it can't connect to that service in the listener.  The database unique name is QNAIS2, and the running instance is QNAIS21. QNAIS2 is registered with the listener as a service, but QNAIS21 is the instance and is not a service. Why does dbca try to look for the instance as a service when it knows the database name is QNAIS2?

Howdy, Stranger!
