group_mark_id, line_mark_id, and lot_line_mark_id fields in serial numbers table

Hello,

I've seen few handred records in that table that those fields got populated with a value at my company.  My impreesion is that they should not and I wonder if anyone could advise whether or not that means the serial numbers got 'reserved' when the value in those fields is not null.
