Deletion of contract history when start date change to future for rehire

Hi,I encountered an issue updating the contract when employee change the start date to future date than the original start date.
Found out that API hr_contract_api.maintain_contracts will delete all the contract records with effective start date earlier than the latest start date.
Is there any work around for this?
Please help.
